Steritrox Secures Third Investment Round for Meditrox Launch

01 July 2009: Steritrox Ltd, the leading developer of a patented process for rapid room sanitation and disinfection, today announced that it has secured approximately £1 million of investment from WHEB Ventures (WHEB) and the North West Equity Fund.

Steritrox will use this investment to fund the roll out of its Meditrox-100 system into the UK National Health Service (NHS) in the fight against healthcare acquired infections (HCAIs) or “superbugs”, such as MRSA, C Difficile (C. diff) and other bacterial and viral infections.

This is the third round of investment by WHEB and North West Equity and demonstrates their commitment to the company. WHEB and North West Equity originally backed Steritrox in 2005 and provided a further round of funding in 2007.

The Meditrox system for routine whole room decontamination was initially developed by Steritrox for the food production industry, where it has been in use for several years by some of Europe’s largest food manufactures. The system successfully eradicated harmful bacteria and contaminants such as Listeria and E.coli in processing units. In extensive testing, it has been proven to be effective against a broad range of bacterial and viruses that give rise to HCAIs.

This investment comes at an important time in Steritrox’s development, following the commercial launch of the Meditrox-100 system in June 2009. The company is now preparing to take orders for deployment of the systems.

Peter Townley, Managing Director, Steritrox said: “We are pleased with the continued support from WHEB Ventures and North West Equity. The capital we have received allows us to commit fully to the commercial launch of Meditox-100. We look forward to seeing the deployment of a number of systems over the coming months.”

Rob Wylie, Partner, WHEB Ventures said, “This is important technology that has the potential to save lives. We are delighted to continue to support Steritrox as it continues consistently to meet the targets that have been set for commercialization of the technology within the healthcare and food industries.”

Derek King, who heads the North West Equity Fund, stated “Steritrox’s evolution as a company continues apace and we are delighted to show our support again, as the technological progress becomes commercial reality and products become available that represent a paradigm shift in the way medical establishments can manage the challenges “superbugs” present.”
